Stephen Millington

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor and have worked in private practice since 2007. I have a consulting room in a quiet location in Hythe, Kent, where I moved in 2018 from private practice in London.

Working in-person

Due to the Covid pandemic, it has not been possible for me to see clients in my room and, in order to continue working, I have provided therapy over the phone or by video using Zoom. With the changing situation, I have made a limited return to working in person while still offering the alternative of video and phone. If you are thinking of starting therapy, we can first discuss the preferred mode of working, taking into account the safety considerations around Covid.

therapy

I work with adults of all ages and backgrounds, and have experience of a wide range of presenting issues including: anxiety, depression, bereavement, difficulties with relationships, issues around sexuality and identity, problems at work, redundancy, lack or loss of direction and motivation, difficulties with understanding and expressing feelings, lack of confidence, and other important life-changes.

If there is something troubling you, and you think that therapy might help, the first step is to arrange an initial consultation. This gives you the opportunity to tell me about yourself and what it is that has led you to seek therapy, and what you would like to achieve from it. I will explain how we would work together, and, if we are both happy to continue, we can then agree a regular day and time to meet each week.

I offer appointments Monday-Friday, with a starting time from 9am to 7pm.

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

I trained for five years at WPF Therapy and qualified with the Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Theory and Practice, which licences me to work as a psychodynamic psychotherapist.

I am a member of the Foundation of Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC), the graduate body of WPF, a requirement of which is continuing professional development.

I am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and adhere to its codes of conduct.

Supervision

I am a qualified psychoanalytic supervisor and I offer private supervision. I have the experience of supervising qualified and trainee practitioners, both individually and in groups. I have a Diploma of Proficiency in Psychoanalytic Supervision from The Guild of Psychotherapists, am a member of the British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision (BAPPS), and I am on the UKCP Register of Supervisors.

fees

My standard fee per session is £60.00, but I can offer a lower fee in some circumstances. For the initial consultation, my fee is £75.00.
